Splish Splash!
TAKING a milk bath is one of the oldest tricks in the book. It is claimed to have been a favourite of Cleopatra and Queen Elizabeth… and we all know how glamourous they were! It’s easy to create your
own personalised version of the age old favourite.
What you will need:
- 2 Litres milk
- Floating candles or flowers
- Rooibos tea
- Lavender pieces
Instructions:
Pour two litres of milk into bath water. Fill a pouch with rooibos tea and lavender pieces, so it is like a big tea bag. Let it soak with the water. For a personal touch, float a couple of flowers or candles on the surface of the bath: the steam will bring out the scent. Now, relax and enjoy.
Scalp Treatment
THE scalp takes a beating, especially in the summer months when the sun’s rays and chlorine from the pool can seriously damage hair. Revive your hair and scalp with a hydrating treatment.
What you will need:
- 1 Whole avocado or a cup of plain yoghurt
- Argan oil
- 2 Tablespoons of honey
- Tea tree oil
- Gloves
Instructions:
Use yogurt or one whole mashed up avocado to act as a base for your treatment. Both are thick enough to act as a paste and will also moisturise. Add 10 drops of argan oil and two tablespoons of honey. The
sweet ingredient will aid in hydration and act as the ‘glue’ for this recipe. Next, add a few drops of tea tree oil. Stir the mixture until the consistency is smooth and creamy. Use gloves to apply the mask directly onto the scalp. Massage gently using your fingertips.
Lash & Brow Serum
CASTOR OIL is a remedy used to cure all sorts of ailments, but this wonder oil also promotes eyelash growth. It will help eyelashes to grow thick and long and can keep them from breaking. It can also help you grow new eyebrow hair in bare areas that might have been over-tweezed. And it’s super cheap.
What you will need:
- Castor Oil
- Empty mascara tube or cotton bud
Instructions:
If using the empty mascara tube, pour castor oil into the bottle – using a tiny funnel from a craft store makes this easy with no spillage. Gently apply the castor oil covered mascara wand or cotton bud to the tips of your brows as with an eyebrow gel. Also apply to the lashes, like you would mascara.
Hand Scrub
CONSIDERING nail art and enamel colours are all we talk about for the first 20 minutes that we see each other, you don’t want to be that girl who has an immaculate mani, but dry and crusty hands. Take a few minutes to make this hand scrub. Here’s how it’s made…
What you will need
- ¼ Cup of sea salt
- Half a lemon
- 2 Tablespoons coconut oil
- Olive oil or vitamin E oil
Instructions:
Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl. Once done, it should be of a creamy consistency. Scrub your hands (and feet, if you have enough) with this for two minutes and rinse with luke warm water. Allow the remaining oils to stay on your hands and soak in. Pat your hands dry with a towel.
Berry Lip Stain
FOR those of you concerned about chemicals being put in and on our bodies, you can’t get more natural than this homemade berry lip stain! Get the perfect ‘just-bitten’ colour. Here’s how to do it yourself:
What you will need
- 3 Blackberries (for a bright berry colour)
- 1 Raspberry (for a pretty pink colour)
- 3 Pomegranate Seeds (for a vibrant red colour)
- ½ Teaspoon olive oil
- Mortar and pestle or a spoon and bowl
- A small pot/jar with screw top
Instructions:
Squash the blackberries and raspberry in the bowl thoroughly with the back of the spoon. Add the pomegranate juice into the mixture by individually squeezing each seed between your thumb and index finger over the bowl. Pour the olive oil into the bowl and stir everything together. Finish by draining the liquid from the mixture into the jar. Use your fingers to apply. Try different fruits (cranberries, cherries, etc.) and experiment to get your favourite colour.
