WE can’t deny that refining the jaw, highlighting strong cheekbones or slimming the nose has its benefits to making you look your best, which is ultimately make-up’s main objective. But contouring can go from trendy to monstrosity very quickly if you haven’t learnt how to do it flawlessly. And let’s be real: is spending half an hour drawing on your face every morning really that necessary? One form of contouring that we can get behind, however, is eye contouring. It’s so simple, it’s basically 100% fool proof!
What is it?
Whether you simply want to enhance your natural eye shape or transform it completely, contouring eyes is the way to go. The same principle of contouring the face governs eye contouring too: highlighting areas reflect light and push features forward, making them look more plumped and pronounced, whereas shading areas absorb light to push features back and make them look thinner or more sculpted.
How do you do it?
THE key to creating a contoured eye is to choose both a dark and light shadow shade. This is so that the contour can be clearly seen.
For light to medium skin tones, a tan shade should be your go-to. You can even use a matt bronzer to create your shading. For darker skin tones, go with a dark chocolate or even black shade to contour the crease. Sweep this shadow in the crease of the eye to create definition. To add more intensity apply on the bottom lash line too.
Use a lighter shade and apply on the whole lid all the way up to the crease. Shimmer shades are welcome here.
Employ a blending brush to make the contour of the crease softer and more natural.
TIP: Fill in and keep brows in place. They frame the face.
